“Ignorance of Scripture is Ignorance of Christ” St. Jerome.
On the occasion of 125 years of ‘Faith Journey’ of Sacred Heart Church, Singamari, a diocese level Bible Quiz was organized. The diocese level Bible Quiz final was held on 19 August 2023 at Sacred Heart Church Singamari.
The teams that have participated in the final were ten from five deaneries of the diocese. The event began with the Bible procession followed by prayer dance by Holy Childhood children of the parish. Fr. Pius Marcus was the Chief Guest of the day. The occasion was graced by the presence of Fr. Robin Kalikotey dean of South -West Sikkim, Fr. Joseph Chettri dean of Pedong, and Fr. Michael Singh dean of Darj-Kurseong. Frs. Alexander Gurung, Gyan Stephen, Richard Lepcha and Jerad Lepcha (Jr) were present to support their parish teams.
Fr. Patrick Pradhan, SJ Parish Priest, welcomed the gathering and highlighted and explained the importance of Bible Quiz and why the Quiz was named after Frs. Farrell and Bourke. As these two Canadian Missionaries Fr. Farrell and Fr. Bourke have contributed much in translating Nepali Bible, Nepali Missal and Lectionaries for Darjeeling Sikkim region.
Mr. John Britto Chettri and Mr. Michael Tamang were the quiz masters and they have done a fantastic job, conducting the quiz in a professional manner. All the teams performed well but the team from St Margaret Mary Parish, Nimbong outperformed all the other teams winning the championship. The team from St Anthony Parish, Kilatar, Kalimpong was declared the runners-up. Roseline Lepcha from the winning team was given the best quizzer trophy.
The organizing committee has done a commendable job in making an event successful and memorable one. Kudos to each member of the committee. I would like to express my gratitude on behalf of Organizing Committee to all the Deans and Parish Priests of five deaneries for their cooperation and support. And many congratulations to all the teams for their genuine effort and inquisitive minds to delve deep in the rich field of Scripture.
